Fight yeast and fungus with the proper dietary tools

Coffee can increase awareness and energy. It has several other wonderful qualities, but we probably don’t have to convince you. You already love it! However, those with fungal infections know that the wonderful coffee bean harbors fungus called aspergillus which produces the mycotoxin Ochractoxin. For a normal digestive system small amount of these mycotoxins pose no problem. But those with candida albicans can exhibit strong symtoms of bloating, rashes, burning and other symptoms. Even after the episode passes, toxins linger. The presence of mycotoxins also seems to signal to the fungal pathogen the time is ripe for expansion. Mycotoxins must be eliminated from the diet in order to win the war against an intestinal or systemic candida albicans infection.

Flaxseed – Start the day with a full belly – fat, fiber, protein, and carbs. 

Flaxseed has it all.  Fat, protein and carbs. for energy and muscle.  Add fiber and fatty acids to make it easy on the digestive system. It is packed with needed mineral such as copper, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc.  A great source of B family thiamine and B6. Now throw in iron and folate just for fun. This stuff is great for anyone looking to improve nutrition. Did we mention it lowers cholesteral? Throw some in the protein drink, smoothie, ceral, or yogurt. You will not regret it. Some flaxseed oil would not kill you either. It has high content of fatty acids for repair of the intestinal lining.  

 

Tea, a term that has come to describe both the brew from the tea plant and also generally any brew made from steeping other herbs and spices in hot water. Of the varietals made from the tea plant itself black tea has show the greatest promise against candidiasis.  Polyphenols in black tea  inhibit growth in many candida strains including C. albican, C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis.  Beyond the tea plant several herbs are seeped to create teas antagonistic to candida albicans.  The teas of pau d’arco bark and the leaves of the echinacea plant both disrupt candida albican.  Although the ingredients in herbal teas can be taken by pills the aqueous method offers a couple advantages.  A high number of pills and tablets taken daily can become difficult to digest for one with existing digestive sluggishness.  Secondly the delivery may achieve better coverage of biofilms in difficult to reach folds of the intestinal tract.

Chia is a wonderful seed that can absorb 10 to 12 times its weight in water.  This seed is also 40% dietary fiber of a type which seems  to provide no growth benefit to yeast. The absorbent and abrasive qualities allow toxins, gases, and pathogens to be scrubbed off and sucked up.  Protein and fat are also delivered via this seed causing more stable glucose levels.  In addition, the seed is the most abundant plant source for omega-3 fatty acids which are need for immune response both in the gut and every cell through the body.  Omega-3’s fatty are an oily substance which allow for easy elimination taking toxins, mycotoxins, and free yeast cells with it.

Medium-chain triglycerides, say that three times fast. These saturated fatty acid comprises about 60% of coconut oil. Caprylic acid is most prevalent but caproic, caproic, and lauric are a few more. The GI tract does not require energy to absorb these fatty acids and they can quickly be turned to energy. Thus MCT oil is a hit with adherents of the keto diet. Those familiar with the candida diet know that the ketosis cycle and energy sources are also s daily concern.  This of course is due to the fact that sugar and carbohydrates are eliminated or curtailed in early phases the candida diet. Sugar and starchy carbs of the main feedstock of candida albicans. It is also easily absorbed by the cells of yeast and once there is disrupts the cell wall. MCTs now also come in a powdered form which is easy to mix in a protein shake, coffee, or yogurt.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar as the name implies is vinegar derived from apple juice. The process involves the production of acetic acid which has an antiseptic quality.  And ACV delivers an impressive host of beneficial microbes to the digestive tract. For instance multiple strains of lactobacillus alone exist in “the mother”.  The mother as it is often referred to as, is the suspended floating material in true ACV.  This bacteria helps digest nutrients and deters pathogens like candida albicans.  Thus apple cider  vinegar is a one-two punch.
